Chapter 82: Little Snack
Chapter 82: Little Snack
Xiao Cao understood that this older sister just wanted to help her.
But she had nothing, how could she repay the older sister? The older sister had already given them so much candy, how could she have the nerve to take more?
“Take it,” Su Yinhe stuffed the bag into Xiao Cao’s arms.
Actually, she really didn’t want these snacks anymore. These were the snacks she had brought over before, to nibble on while playing games or using her tablet.
But she had taken too many back then, and now she was a bit sick of them, just wanting to switch to a different flavor.
Switch to other snacks.
These melon seeds had been sitting there for so long, they were now damp. Not fragrant at all.
She was just worrying about how to deal with this.
“Then… then I’ll take it.” Xiao Cao hugged the bag tightly to her chest, tears “plopping” onto the ground. “Thank you, sister.”
“Good girl. Keep living well, things will get better,” Su Yinhe said with a comforting smile.
“I will. In the future, I’ll definitely give sister lots and lots of Crystal Cores.”
“I don’t need them. I already have a lot of Crystal Cores.” Guarding a limitless supermarket, she collected heaps and heaps of Crystal Cores and Gold.
Right now, she wasn’t worried about not receiving enough Gold and Crystal Cores; she was fretting over how to spend all these Gold and Crystal Cores.
Crystal Cores were easy to manage; they could power a protective shield for the supermarket, even a luxurious version, burning through Crystal Cores as quickly as burning hay.
Gold was a bit more troublesome.
She was troubled about how to convert all this Gold she’d take back into money. Which gold shop could handle so much Gold, and with these Gold lacking proof, how was she supposed to sell them? Would so much Gold entering the market affect the price of Gold…
What should she do with the money exchanged for the Gold, which city’s properties should she buy, are those in Beijing better or those in Hai City…
Should she buy a school district house…
Anyway, it was a sweet dilemma.
But she really wanted to repay her sister; Xiao Cao looked at Su Yinhe and secretly made a decision in her heart.
Ah Qian and the others, holding a bag of candy, were originally very happy and wanted to show off to others.
But unexpectedly, when they came out, they saw Xiao Cao carrying a bag even bigger than their bag of candy, and judging by its looks, it contained food.
Ah Qian’s smile suddenly stiffened on his face.
“Xiao Cao sister, what’s in the bag?”
Xiao Cao, holding the bag, heard this and turned her head to look at Su Yinhe, who was playing on her tablet.
“This.” Xiao Cao looked at the little yellow duck on the bag and smiled. “This is the snack sister gave me, it has candies, bread, cookies…”
“Wow! Ah Qian brother, Xiao Cao sister has more stuff than you.”
“Then eat hers, don’t ask me for candy anymore.” Ah Qian was originally happy, but his mood soured instantly when he heard this.
“Don’t be like that. I want your candy too.” Ah Qian had already explicitly promised them he’d share the candy, but Xiao Cao sister hadn’t agreed to share with them yet.
The stuff was given to Xiao Cao by the boss; she could share if she wanted, and if not, they couldn’t say anything.
They quickly tried to placate Ah Qian, who was clearly miffed, pouring out loads of flattering words; soon, Ah Qian was all smiles again.
Agreed to continue sharing his candy.
When they returned, Xiao Cao handed the little yellow duck bag to a girl she was closest with, and then went with Wang Xin to borrow a pot.
Wang Xin had taken a little bit of rice and exchanged it for the opportunity to use the pot anytime aside from the base meal times.
That little bit of rice was given away, and the supervisor was grinning so broadly his eyes were mere slits.
Wang Xin looked at that little bit of rice he’d given away, his heart aching terribly, but he knew it was a necessary favor to give.
They were both borrowing fire and a pot, without giving some benefits, how would others accommodate them.
Although he understood this reasoning, it still hurt so much.
Tomorrow he would take Ah Qian and Gou Dan to look for a pot.
He couldn’t handle the sporadic rice provisions.
It wasn’t time for cooking at the base yet, but after they were given the rice, Xiao Cao began to cook with the base’s pot.
She rinsed the rice only once, and didn’t pour out the rinsed water but chose to cook it in another pot.
After cooking, there was a fragrance of rice.
She first ladled a bowl of the cooked rinse water to drink, it didn’t taste much, but it seemed better than ordinary water.
Xiao Cao’s eyes smiled.
Wang Xin went to call others to drink, half a bowl each, and after finishing, they all sat around, staring at the pot with rice.
They could already smell the fragrance of the rice.
Their stomachs were growling as the rice was being cooked in the pot.
They greedily stared at the pot in the middle, not even blinking, for fear that if they blinked, the rice would vanish.
After the rice was cooked, they wished they could just grab it with their hands, but they refrained, fearing that if too many rushed to scoop at once, the pot might tip over.
They had to queue up and dish out rice honestly.
Those serving the rice dared not slow down their actions, as slowing down would have provoked an attack from those waiting.
After getting their rice, they devoured it voraciously.
Xiao Cao had added too much water to the rice; it was a bit mushy, but no one dared to complain. With such white rice, who could refuse?
The group scraped the pot clean.
After eating, Ah Qian couldn’t wait to start distributing candy.
Two pieces per person, each of a different flavor.
Some popped the candy straight into their mouths, while others carefully saved it in their pockets, reluctant to eat it.
Ah Qian, holding the five remaining candies in his hand, decided to eat one a day, making the five candies last five days.
While deciding this, he didn’t consider that in such hot weather, the candy would melt in five days.
After receiving candy from Ah Qian, Xiao Cao called them over and decided to distribute the snacks from her little yellow duck bag.
These were given by her sister, and although she was reluctant, they had always supported each other like this. Whenever anyone had something in the past, they would share, and now that she had these things, she should share them with others.
One candy per person, one bag of Oreo cookies each, and as there wasn’t enough beef jerky, they shared one bag between two people…
“Beef jerky!” Ah Qian, seeing the beef jerky, couldn’t contain his excitement and yelled in a high pitch.
“What’s wrong?” Xiao Cao, not aware of the incident where Ah Qian desired but couldn’t afford the beef jerky and had to put it back.
“It’s nothing, it’s nothing.”
Ah Qian stared intently at the beef jerky.
Everyone received an equal share of the items in the bag.
In the end, there was quite a bit left over, but it was not enough for everyone to have more, so Xiao Cao kept it for herself.
The bag had shrunk by four-fifths, but seeing their dark faces, Xiao Cao felt very happy.
The beef jerky was opened and shared on the spot.
After receiving their share of beef jerky, some ate it, while others still wanted to save it.
Xiao Cao thought for a while and then said, “Eat the beef jerky sooner rather than later; it will spoil and won’t taste as good later.”
Those who really wanted to eat but thought about saving it couldn’t restrain themselves after hearing Xiao Cao’s advice.
They took out the jerky again, stripping and eating it strand by strand.
A small piece of beef jerky could last them several hours to eat.
Some ate theirs quickly in just a few moments.
Then they could only watch others eat while they drooled beside them.
What do you think?
